Before getting involved in the merchant services business, I owned and operated 2 businesses. One was a café/catering business and the other was a Pizzeria. I had merchant accounts for both businesses.

The funny thing is, that to this day, I still don't know what my processing rates were. All I did know was that when I took a credit card... the money would show up in my bank account a couple of days later, minus all kinds of processing fees.

Here are just 3 things you should know before setting about locating a merchant account provider - and there are many others:
  • Just because the Provider's sales representative doesn't bring up a fee, doesn't mean you won't get charged it. For example, there are batch fees, monthly minimums, bank service fees, transaction fees, settlement fees, AVS fees, qualified discount rates, mid-qualified discount rates, non-qualified discount rates, annual fees, contract cancellation penalties.the list goes on. Make sure you understand what you are getting into.
  • Leasing is the worst way to buy credit card processing equipment. You'll end up paying 3-5 times more than you would if you bought it outright. If you can't afford a new terminal, refurbished ones work just fine. Most banks offer terminal replacement programs anyways.
  • Make sure the Provider understands your business and how you take payments so your account is set up correctly. Some providers are notorious for quoting you the lower 'card-swiped' rates on all terminal deals - even if in fact you 'key in' the majority of your orders. The result - a nasty surprise when you examine your monthly processing statement.
To get the right solution - at the right price - that's the challenge.

What do I have to do?

  1. You complete our online form describing your business, its credit card processing and merchant account needs, etc.

  2. We send your information to Michael in real-time. He promptly reviews the information. Michael then contacts you to get a better feel for your processing needs.

  3. Using his well-established relationships with leading Providers, Michael determines whether you will qualify for a merchant account, and if so (as is usually the case), he then negotiates with the Providers to obtain the very best deal possible for you.
Then, only if you are happy with the proposal he has arranged on your behalf and wish to proceed with it, you pay $39.95 for having used the consulting service. If Michael can't locate a merchant account for your business, or if you don't want to proceed with the one or more solutions he has found for you, you don't pay a cent.

After payment, Michael helps you complete any necessary paperwork to complete the process.

Why do I have to answer so many questions - and pay a fee?

Yes, we know that our form is a little long and that you'll have to answer a lot of questions.

In fact, our form is probably the most extensive online application we know of for merchant account applicants - screening you not only as to your location, business type, products & services sold, processing requirements and volumes, etc., but also as to your credit, current or past bankruptcies, prior processing history, as well as your priorities in selecting a Provider.

The extensive nature of the form - and the $39.95 fee (which goes to help cover the costs of advertising the consulting service) - helps us weed out 'tire-kickers', and means that when Michael contacts you, many of his questions about your business have already been addressed (and your requirements for a processing solution have been accounted for) - so his finding you a merchant account is that much closer.

 

Do I qualify to use the Consulting Service?

At present some restrictions apply to our Consulting Service:
  • The service is only available to businesses located in the United States.
  • Certain business types are not allowed.
  • Also not permitted: Businesses or business owners currently in bankruptcy or with a bankruptcy discharged within the past 6 months, with an outstanding tax lien, or in the VISA/Mastercard MATCH file as a result of a previous merchant account.
